Did You Know Florida Is Expected to Create 200,000 Jobs in 2016?

The new year is upon us and 2016 looks to be another banner year for Florida’s economy and job growth. Consider the following:

  • In January 2015, the Florida Chamber Foundation’s Chief Economist Dr. Jerry Parrish forecasted that 250,000 jobs would be created,
  • As of November 2015, Florida created a total of 239,600 net new jobs. When the December jobs numbers are released this month, the number should be very close to 250,000 for the year,
  • Throughout the last 12 months, 1 in 11 jobs created in the U.S. were created in Florida, despite the state accounting for only 6.2 percent of the U.S. population, and 4.8 percent of the national economy, and
  • Florida has reached a job growth milestone with the announcement of 1 million net new private sector jobs created since December 2010.

At the Florida Chamber Foundation’s CFO Roundtable last month, Chief Economist Dr. Jerry Parrish forecasted that Florida will create 200,000 jobs in 2016. In addition to the encouraging news from the job growth forecast, Florida is poised to gain 300,000 more residents. With 2 million jobs needed and 6 million more residents expected by 2030, Florida is well on track for a prosperous future.
