Florida Chamber-Backed Supermajority Bill Passes
On January 9, the Florida House Appropriations Committee passed a bill that would make it more difficult for the legislature to increases taxes and fees.
HB 7001, proposed by the House Ways and Means Committee and Representative Tom Leek, would amend the state constitution to require a two-thirds “supermajority” vote by the legislature in order to make increases to taxes and fees or to eliminate or decrease any existing tax exemptions.
Lowering the cost of living and the cost of doing business are top priorities for the Florida Chamber, and by limiting tax increases on Florida’s families and job creators, Florida’s economy can strengthen, and jobs, wages and opportunities can continue to grow.
