Boeing Opens Training Systems Development Center in Jacksonville
Employees at facility will develop and deliver state-of-the-art aircrew training for P-8 and virtual maintenance training for a variety of aircraft.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 28, 2021 – Boeing [NYSE: BA], the City of Jacksonville and U.S. Navy leaders today officially opened a new Boeing training systems facility in Jacksonville. The facility will enhance the company’s ability to provide customers with enhanced training solutions, including P-8 aircrew training and virtual maintenance training, and strengthens its commitment to Florida.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Tuesday celebrated the completion of the Boeing Training Systems Development Center, which houses the development of P-8 aircrew training, as well as maintenance training for a variety of defense platforms such as P-8, a multi-mission maritime patrol aircraft, as well as F/A-18, F-15, KC-46, T-7 and Chinook.
The 23,000 square-foot renovated facility has the ability to expand its training capability for any government or commercial platform, and includes four conference rooms and two classrooms. The facility is located about three miles east of Naval Air Station Jacksonville.
“Placing critical training capabilities in the backyard of our U.S. Navy customer will make Boeing a more knowledgeable and nimble training partner,” said Greg Krekeler, senior director of Boeing Government Training Systems and Services Engineering. “This space also provides the resources needed to expand and scale our industry-leading training solutions across multiple platforms through shared resources and analytics.”
Boeing will begin expanding the P-8 aircrew training development team over the next 18 months, bringing new positions to Jacksonville.
“The United States Navy’s Maritime Patrol Force and Boeing have worked collectively since the very first P-8A training device came to Jacksonville in 2010,” said U.S. Navy Captain Matthew Pottenburgh. “Together, we will continue to develop, test, deliver and maintain the world’s best aircraft and aircraft training systems to our warfighters forward deployed.”
In addition to opening the Training Systems development center, Boeing’s current presence in Jacksonville includes its facility at Cecil Airport, where employees maintain, modify and upgrade aircraft for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, including the F/A-18 A-D Hornet, F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler. It is also home to a Flight Control Repair Center that provides structural repairs to F/A-18 A-F and EA-18G flight control surfaces, and where the Boeing team converts F/A-18 Super Hornets into flight demonstration aircraft for the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angel squadron. Boeing announced in December 2020 a lease agreement to construct new facilities starting in fall 2021.
