Last month, SeaWorld Orlando and a leading group of coral reef management and conservation leaders announced the successful reproduction of rough cactus coral, a species facing a growing threat of destruction from stony coral tissue loss disease (SCTLD). The propagation is a momentous leap forward in coral conversation efforts at the Florida Coral Rescue Center, which SeaWorld aquarists help manage.
The conservation of coral is crucial as reefs support thousands of species and indicate ocean health. We’re working with partners and other zoological facilities on strategies to address SCTLD’s devastation while providing a safe and stable home for coral colonies to flourish.
