Community invited to attend Sasse inauguration

On Thursday, Nov. 2, the University of Florida will host an investiture ceremony for President Ben Sasse at 3 p.m. at UF’s historic University Auditorium.

“We’re incredibly excited to officially welcome and celebrate our 13th president while deepening our service mission as a public, land-grant university,” said UF Interim Provost Scott Angle. “This is a time for everyone in the UF community to celebrate, embrace fresh possibilities, and unite around one of the key purposes that brings us together: service.”

See the program here and more about the speakers here.

Background:
Doors will open at 2 p.m. The inauguration ceremony and reception are open to members of the UF community, alumni, and the public, but space is limited, and advance registration is required. To register, please fill out the form here. Registration will close at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, or when seats are filled.

Media should email news@ufl.edu for credentials.

Additionally, UF will focus on a service initiative aimed at helping the university’s neighbors in need in Gainesville and other UF locations.

The Sasse family has emphasized service to UF community members and neighbors, personally participating in Habitat for Humanity and other Gainesville and campus service projects and visiting IFAS extension and other offices statewide dedicated to serving Florida’s farmers, ranchers, and growers.

UF will capture that spirit of “service to neighbor” with activities in Gainesville, statewide and globally beginning Oct. 29 and continuing through Nov. 2 with a goal to continue building service into the heart of what UF is known for.

Several areas of the university, including the Brown Center for Leadership and Service and Gators Volunteer, will join hands to provide a wide suite of special service opportunities during that week – including filling food pantries, organizing health fairs, and assisting homeless shelters. The campaign will extend its reach to other areas through UF’s global network of 78 Gator Clubs and seven affiliate groups, as well as UF IFAS Extension offices in Florida’s 67 counties.

UF is encouraging all members of the university community to participate. Learn more and find out how here.
