Critically Endangered Baby Orangutan Born at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay
On April 13th, our team at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay excitedly helped welcome a baby Bornean orangutan into the world! The female newborn, weighing just over three pounds, was delivered via caesarean section and was surrounded by a team of medical and zoological professionals from various organizations.
The youngster’s birth is part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan and represents a beacon of hope for orangutan conservation efforts as the species is listed as critically endangered. The newborn and her mom Luna are recovering and doing well, and our team is dedicated to the well-being and bright future of this mother-daughter duo and their species. We need your help in giving our newborn the perfect name. Select your favorite from this link until May 21st, 2024.
