Following the Sun

Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC – The Reliable One) continues to take a lead role in transforming the state’s energy future by increasing its commitment to renewable energy. OUC was the first to build a utility-scale solar array in Orange County, and recently announced a partnership with neighboring utilities to dramatically increase solar production by installing up to three arrays in rural Orange and Osceola Counties, adding 60 – 120 megawatts to its portfolio.

Just last year, OUC unveiled its newest array, the Kenneth P. Ksionek Community Solar Farm, offering customers the opportunity to reap the benefits of solar for their homes without the hassle or upfront costs that come with installing a rooftop array.

And, the utility is constantly looking for innovative solar solutions to add to its mix. In February 2017, OUC installed a unique 31.5-kilowatt solar facility that floats on water and sends electricity directly into the grid. Floating solar is common in Europe and Asia, but is one of only a few installations in the United States.
