World Trade Month Resolution D.C. Fly-In Infrastructure Coalition Infrastructure Week
Florida Chamber of Commerce in D.C. This Week Advocating Support of International Trade
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 15, 2018) — Recognizing the significant role international commerce plays in Florida’s economy, Governor Rick Scott and members of the Florida Cabinet have declared May as Florida World Trade Month. This state of Florida Resolution is being shared with Florida’s Congressional Delegation and federal agency leaders this week as the Florida Chamber of Commerce leads a contingency of Florida job creators on a “D.C. Fly-In” advocating for support of international trade.
“Florida is not just a great place to live and do business, but has an incredibly diversified economy” said BOB GRAMMIG, Chair, Florida Chamber of Commerce and Partner, Holland & Knight. “By expanding Florida’s role as the global hub for trade and logistics, we are creating jobs, attracting and retaining talent and providing more opportunities for businesses who want to grow or expand in our state.”
The Florida Chamber has a long-standing history of supporting free trade, expanding international trade and investment opportunities for Florida businesses and communities. The Florida Chamber’s “D.C. Fly-In” is a part of the organizations efforts to solidify Florida’s competitiveness at all levels of government – local, state and federal.
International Trade is Big Business for Florida:
- It supports over two million jobs – one in five jobs in Florida,
- It accounts for approximately 17 percent of Florida’s economy,
- Over 61,000 companies in Florida export products or services, and
- 95 percent of Florida’s exporters are small- and medium-sized companies.
“International trade and investment – like water – flows through the path of least resistance,” said ALICE ANCONA, Director, International Strategy and Policy, Florida Chamber of Commerce. “The Florida Chamber works every day to ensure that the benefits of trade and investment flow to Florida’s job creators and workers to ensure that we remain the most globally competitive state in the country.”
