On April 11, the Florida House passed two innovative bills that will help increase and expand Floridians’ quality of life; HB 23 related to telehealth, and HB 1113 related to health insurance savings programs. Florida’s healthcare industry takes up nearly half of the state budget every year, which means that Florida needs a coordinated, comprehensive approach that emphasizes value and affordability. With 5 million new residents calling Florida their home by 2030, access to safe, high-quality healthcare is of paramount importance. HB 23 authorizes state-licensed health care professionals to utilize telehealth and articulates a standard of care. As Florida grows, it faces a shortage of care options and the Florida Chamber has long championed telehealth as a vehicle to help those underserved and those in rural areas. HB 1113 creates the Patient Savings Act, which allows health insurers to create a voluntary shared savings incentive program to encourage insured individuals to shop for high quality, lower cost health care services and share any savings realized as a result of the insured’s choice. Thank you to Representative Clay Yarborough and Representative Paul Renner for your leadership on this issue and getting healthcare right in Florida. |
