Key Highlights:
Increased Security
The new power station can serve as a dedicated source of electricity for the base during local, state or national emergencies, such as natural disasters or cyberattacks. This independence enhances base security and ensures MacDill can maintain critical military operations in service to our community and our nation. Once completed, it will be the largest energy assurance lease in Air Force history.
Benefits to Tampa Electric Customers
During normal operations, the new power station will serve all Tampa Electric customers, offering a fast and efficient energy boost to the grid during periods of heightened electrical demand, such as extreme weather conditions and fluctuations in the availability of solar.
We are so proud to have partnered with the United States Air Force, MacDill Air Force Base and Peoples Gas to realize this vision for greater energy resilience for our community. The new MacDill Power Station reinforces Tampa Electric’s commitment to providing reliable, always-on energy to our customers.
