Florida Chamber Foundation Transportation Summit Encourages Leaders to Prepare for Six Million New Residents & Global Transportation Leadership
The Path to Florida’s Future Debuts to Highlight Importance of Florida’s Transportation Economy
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (December 10, 2015) – With six million new residents expected to call Florida home by 2030, transportation leaders from throughout Florida are gathered at the Florida Chamber Foundation’s Transportation Summit in Jacksonville today discussing challenges and opportunities to planning for increasing our state’s transportation position as a global leader.
“Every day, Floridians use a mode of transportation to help them earn a living, and Florida’s businesses rely on an efficient transportation network to remain competitive,” said Tony Carvajal, Executive Vice President of the Florida Chamber Foundation. “The good news is, Florida leaders have made the right transportation investments- which has positioned our state as the leader for road conditions in the U.S. Now is the time to turn our focus toward the future and help ensure Florida is fully prepared for a global economy.”
Among statewide leaders gathered at the Chamber Foundation’s Transportation Summit are Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jim Boxold, who will provide in-depth details on Governor Rick Scott’s proposed $10 billion transportation investment for the next fiscal year.
“Thanks to Governor Scott and the Legislature, we’ve invested $10 billion in Florida’s transportation system in back-to-back years, strengthening our state’s economy and creating opportunities for Floridians,” Secretary Boxold said. “We’re pleased to partner with the Florida Chamber Foundation on this year’s Transportation Summit, and look forward to working on our third record transportation budget and positioning Florida as a global leader.”
Florida’s forthcoming population increase will mean about four to five million new Florida drivers commuting on our roads by 2030 – along with the one million visitors that come to Florida each year. In addition to highways, Florida also moves people and goods with a labyrinth of railways, seaports, airports and space ports, all interconnected to provide services and goods that grow Florida’s economy.
