Florida Chamber Partners with the Florida Ports Council for Spring Washington, D.C. Fly-In
The Florida Chamber of Commerce recently traveled to Washington, D.C. with the Florida Ports Council for their Spring Washington, D.C. Fly-In. The focus of this trip was to discuss ways to ensure Florida remains a global hub for trade, as well as ways to expand job creation through Florida’s world-class seaports.
As the global economy is expected to double in size by the year 2020, Florida will be at the crossroads of strategic trade lanes. Florida’s 15 public seaports play a vital role in Florida’s economy generating nearly 90,000 direct and indirect jobs and contributing over $177 billion in economic value to Florida through cargo and cruise activities.
Highlights Included:
- Meetings with Florida’s Congressional Delegation members including Senator Marco Rubio, Representative Tom Rooney, Representative Mario Diaz-Balart and Representative Brian Mast
- Florida Seaports Congressional Caucus meeting, chaired by Representative Frederica Wilson, where the Florida Ports Council addressed seaport priorities with Caucus members, as well as numerous agency partners.
May 1 marks the beginning of World Trade Month. The Florida Chamber of Commerce joins business leaders from across the state in reinforcing the important role global trade plays in creating jobs, growing opportunities for small businesses and increasing foreign direct investment.
